Luci e Ombre
The body is the seat of our biological identity and the holder of the secret which leads to the beginning of knowledge. it is the seat of passion, drama and above all Eros. The choice of the in depth study of the nude (above all the male nude) has its origins for me in the obsession for the dynamic which generates the light and the shade of the male body and the very boundaries between erotic and dramatic emotion, the choice of positioning myself in that portion of space existing as in a hallucination between being and non being. The camera has always played an important role in my studies and learning (both formal and personal) which by means of deep and courageous research has now focussed on the body.
The camera is however, only an instrument which permits the fixing of images without ulterior artifice. I never re-touch my photos nor make use of digital tricks, I leave the image to beseen as is. Aside from some rare occasions I always use colour film. this because having begun as an painter this remains my foundation which permits me to see the photos through the eyes of a painter and with the knowledge that comes from having studied art for years and years. in my photos all is already written and this would appear easy to understand but I would wish that the vision of the works stimulate questions to which the answers could be many both enigmatic and ambiguous and as such can, in turn, become other questions: When an artist becomes prey to the state of mind known as inspiration and in which ideas, obsessions and ravishings arrive without his understanding from whence, and he is aware of things he didn''t know that he knew: he enjoys a condition that is the same as the mystic in his ecstasy. and the unconscious comes to the surface... By means of repetitive images I suggest an emotion and an enigma of a parallel world where both space and time are annulled and from where the figures cannot escape in that they are entrapped in a sequence from where there is no exit.
